Gestanin Common use

Gestanin is a hormone progestogen similar to progesterone. The medication stimulates a secretory phase of the cyclic changes in endometrium and creates conditions for development of the fertilized egg, reduces contractile activity and sensitivity to oxytocin of the muscular outer layer of the uterus. Gestanin also activates growth of acini of the mammary glands, increases deposits of fat, promotes accumulation of liver glycogen and increases metabolism of glucose, increases production of aldosterone by the adrenal glands. Gestanin is used to prevent a miscarriage, a preterm birth.

Gestanin Precautions

Cautiousness should be exercised in patients with inflammatory kidney disease, chronic heart failure, reduced tolerance to glucose, and also in pregnant women. Monitoring of glucose blood levels is necessary in the patients with diabetes. Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without permission of your doctor as it may make your condition worse.

Gestanin Contraindications

This medication cannot be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the medication, liver failure, Dubin-Johnson syndrome, Rotor syndrome, thrombophlebitis, cerebral blood circulation disorders, mammary gland and genital tumors, toxaemia (toxins in the bloodstream), herpes (also in history), and in breastfeeding women. Do not use this drug if you are under 16 years of age.

Gestanin Side effects

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time of your next dose just skip the missed dose and return to your schedule. Do not double dose this medication to make up the missed dose.
